The Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were announced this evening and three Cubs players. second baseman Nico Hoerner, center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and left fielder Ian Happ, all won Gold Gloves at their respective positions.
Crow-Armstrong was a human highlight reel in center field this past year, making plays that almost no other center fielder would even attempt to make a catch on. Crow-Armstrong made an unbelievable 19 five-star catches (under a 25 percent probability) when no other center fielder had
more than nine. He led MLB in outs above average. It was the first Gold Glove for Crow-Armstrong.
Hoerner wins his second Gold Glove at second base, winning once before in 2023. Hoerner led all second basemen by a wide margin in Outs Above Average with 19, according to Sports Info Solutions. Second place Xavier Edwards only had nine.
Happ won his fourth-straight Gold Glove in left field, which is more than any other Cubs outfielder in history. Happ made just one error in 306 chances.
Several more Cubs were “finalists,” meaning they finished in the top three in voting for a Gold Glove, but did not win. Matt Shaw was a “finalist” for the Gold Glove at third base, but Ke’Bryan Hayes, who played for both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati this past year, claimed the award over Shaw. Catcher Carson Kelly was a “finalist,“ but Giants catcher Patrick Bailey was the winner there. Matthew Boyd was a “finalist” for the Gold Glove at pitcher in the National League, but Giants pitcher Logan Webb won that award.
The last time three Cubs won Gold Gloves in the same season was 2023, when Happ, Hoerner and shortstop Dansby Swanson all collected the honor.
That the Cubs had six finalists and three Gold Glove winners is a sign of just how good the Cubs defense was in 2025.
