Every year, Kicker does a survey of the players in the Bundesliga to decide which players the footballers themselves think was the best. This time, 199 active footballers decided to vote Michael Olise as the best player in the league, ahead of even Harry Kane (who scored 36 goals, mind).
In fact, Kane did not even come second. That honor went to RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with third place going to Tottenham Hotspur loanee Luka Vušković. Then comes Kane at FOURTH, followed by fellow FC Bayern
teammate Luis Díaz at fifth.
The numbers were posted to Twitter by @iMiaSanMia:
Olise had an incredible season, so it makes sense that he was voted the best, but this outcome seems incredibly harsh on Kane. Most Bayern fans would consider the two absolutely neck and neck, Kane perhaps slightly ahead. However, this is a survey of current active players in the league, which means it is a judgement by their peers.
Well, maybe Kane will just have to shatter Lewandowski’s record next time. That ought to get him first place.
