I’ll just be honest with you guys — picking an MVP (Most Valuable ‘Phin) after the disaster the Miami Dolphins put on the field against the Indianapolis Colts in Week One was a difficult proposition. However, even when the game’s overall outcome isn’t what we’d hoped it would be — understatement of the season, so far — there are still individual performances to highlight.
This week’s Most Valuable ‘Phin was selected almost by default, as he was the only player to put points on the board for the Dolphins.
Miami Dolphins Week One MVP – De’Von Achane
Achane finished the game with just seven carries, but totaled 55 yards (7.9 yards per carry). He also nabbed three balls for 20 yards and a touchdown as a receiver. His touchdown was one of the maximum effort variety — as he caught an ill-advised swing pass from Tua Tagovailoa on 4th and goal from the 11 yard line and muscled his way through multiple defenders to keep Miami from being shut out on the day.
No, it wasn’t a fun game to watch, but Achane is a phenomenal player to root for and his contributions to this team — win or lose — need to be recognized. We don’t know how the season will play out. Maybe last Sunday’s loss will light a fire under Tagovailoa, Hill, Fitzpatrick and company… and then again, maybe it won’t. But, either way, we will still try and sift through the muck to give you something positive to focus on by picking our MVP each and every week this year.
