Jordan Burroughs was one victory away from wrestling Arman Tsarukyan under the RAF banner, but Burroughs was upset by Michael Caliendo at RAF 14 last weekend in Las Vegas. Not only did Burroughs lose the match, he also lost the interest of Tsarukyan, who holds himself to strict standards as the face of RAF.
Yes, this is the same Arman who was outwrestled by Colby Covington at RAF 11, but whatever.
“Jordan Burroughs is gone, that’s it,” Tsarukyan said at the RAF 14 post-match press conference. “If he loses
to wrestlers who are not high-level wrestlers like an Olympic champion or world champion, there’s no point to wrestle him now. He’s got to come back, wrestle and beat an Olympic champion … even if I wrestle him, he’s got to be No. 1 in RAF.”
Burroughs, 38, won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, holds six world titles, and won two Division-1 national championships for the University of Nebraska.
As for Tsarukyan? He wrestled in Russia and holds a victory over Dillon Danis.
“I’m looking for somebody else,” the 30-year-old Tsarukyan said. “We’ve got a lot of names here, but I’m focusing on the MMA fighters with the big names. I don’t want to just wrestle with no-names. I want to collect all the big names, all the best fighters. A lot of UFC fighters, a lot of good fighters signed (with RAF), so we’ll see. Maybe (Georges St-Pierre). If they can bring in GSP, I would like to wrestle him.”
St-Pierre has yet to respond to the challenge.
