247sports.com’s Eric Bossi was the first to report the news that Mizzou had landed it’s second commitment of the 2027 class with the word of Lee’s Summit West forward Cameron Barnes pledging to play for the Tigers next season.

Eric’s good work. He’s a Kansas City original, and does a terrific job promoting the local hoops scene in KC.
A few words on Cam, he plays at Lee’s Summit West and MoKan Elite in the summer. Barnes is more than comfortable doing the things that contribute to winning. He’s a willing screener and defender, and his frame is good for finishing around the basket.
He joins Scottie Adkinson in the class, Adkinson is a high 4-star combo guard who has been committed to Missouri for more than a year, and played for MoKan Elite as well. The Tigers are planning on adding one more high school recruit in the class.

The most recent scouting report on 247sports has some complementary words on the type of player Missouri is getting:
Barnes is a bit of a role player extraordinaire. He’s not going to overwhelm you with individual offense or gaudy stats, but he has a college ready body, is experienced playing with and against high levels of competition, and willing to play a supporting role in service of winning.
He’s undersized for an interior player, but broad and powerful with long-arms. He’s built like more of a prototypical football player, measuring in at just over 6-foot-5 with shoes on, but with a nearly 6-foot-11 wingspan, and a defined 245-pound frame. He’s a willing screener, passer, and reliable frontcourt decision-maker (1.8 assists vs. 1.4 turnovers) who can play in offensive structure. He has solid hands, is a functional ball-handler, able to play out of dribble hand-offs, and occasionally even start the break himself if he’s in open space. He’s not a shot creator (he loves to spin in the rare case when he looks to make a play), and not an especially bouncy traffic finisher. He’s working to develop some face-up shooting, and does have some touch (67% FT and 30% 3pt), but is still a long way from being a reliable floor-spacer.
He sounds like a good understudy for Jaylen Carey.
Quite honestly we haven’t had much time to focus on basketball recruiting with all the hubbub around the 5th year players this offseason. Old guys suck up all the oxygen out of the room, but Missouri is still working and recruiting players they want to develop over multiple years in the program. And Barnes is a good fit for a guy who can be a 5 year program player.
Also, funny story, a good friend of mine works with Cam’s uncle and texted me this weekend that Cameron was gonig to commit to Mizzou. Thanks for the heads up, Matty!
