As it’s customary in the early stages of the offseason, you start hearing about all the issues certain players battled through to be there, contributing to what was ultimately a successful playoff run.
Kike Hernández is one of the names on the list, as the utility man recently announced he underwent surgery to repair a torn muscle in his left elbow.
According to Hernández, he suffered this injury back in May but played through it, and in doing so for such a lengthy period, the elbow tendon detached from the bone.
This update spells sad news for Puerto Rico fans, as he won’t be able to represent his country during the next World Baseball Classic, which will take place in the spring of 2026. Currently, there is no estimate for Hernández’s return date.
While it’s easy to think of Hernández as a Dodger for life, he is set to reach the open market after having signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers last offseason. Coming off an underwhelming regular season campaign but once again displaying his postseason prowess, Hernández feels like a perfect fit as a complementary piece for the reigning back-to-back champs.
