Matthias Jaissle has revealed the conversations behind Nick Woltemade’s departure from Newcastle United, with the German attacker now beginning a new chapter at Juventus.
Woltemade completed a season-long loan move to Juventus on deadline day after falling down the pecking order at Newcastle United under Jaissle. The move gives the 24-year-old an opportunity to regain his momentum in Serie A.
Despite sanctioning the departure, Jaissle made it clear that he remains a big admirer of Woltemade, both as
a footballer and as a person.
“I really, really appreciate Nick as a player but also as a human being. He has quality both on and off the pitch. We have had really honest discussions but he has taken another challenge in a top league with a top club. We will be watching him closely, I’m really curious as to how he will get on. We will stay in close contact,” Jaissle said (as captured by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie). “I wrote to him yesterday that I cross my fingers he will get the minutes he deserves and performs there. I’m optimistic he will shine at Juventus and score a lot of goals.”
It sounds sort of like a strong endorsement from Jaissle, who clearly believes Woltemade still has plenty to offer. However, it also does not appear as if Jaissle was all that eager to keep Woltemade either. Now at Juventus, the former Newcastle United record signing will have the chance to prove he can make it at a big club.
Jaissle will be watching closely — and he is clearly hoping Woltemade can make his prediction come true by shining in Turin and finding the back of the net regularly.
