As the Buffalo Bills get the ball rolling in their head coach search, they are in the mode of scheduling interviews. Adam Schefter reported that on Sunday, Buffalo will interview Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski for their head coach opening.
Udinski is only 30 years old but has shown to be one of the bright young offensive minds in the league. Teams are taking gambles by hiring young coaches in hopes of finding the next Sean McVay. The Jaguars were ranked eleventh in total
offense, and sixth in points per game. However, it is important to note that it is head coach Liam Coen who calls the plays during games.
Bills fans saw the Jaguars offense up close in the Wild Card round and at times the team was able to move the ball pretty freely. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence also had a resurgence year that made him an MVP finalist.
Before joining the Jaguars, Udinski spent three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings studying under another great offensive mind in Kevin O’Connell. He was the assistant quarterbacks coach for one year and assistant offensive coordinator/assistant QBs coach for one year in Minnesota.
He has been a hot topic this coaching cycle as he has already interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and will have a second interview on Friday before he meets with Buffalo.
If hired, Udinski would become the youngest head coach in the league. He is four months older than Josh Allen.
