Nebraska may not have come away with the win in Saturday’s blackout game against USC, but the night still paid major dividends on the recruiting trail. Four-star wide receiver Tay Ellis has announced his
commitment to the Huskers, giving Matt Rhule and his staff another huge recruiting victory.
Ellis, a 6-foot, 175-pound playmaker from Crowley, Texas, chose Nebraska over offers from Texas, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. He’s rated as the No. 48 wide receiver in the 2027 class and the No. 39 player in Texas, according to 247Sports.
Top-Ranked Class
With Ellis in the fold, Nebraska continues to strengthen what has become an elite 2027 recruiting class. The Huskers currently boast the top-ranked class in the Big Ten, ahead of Ohio State, and sit third nationally — a staggering rise for a program that’s been rebuilding under Rhule.
Led by blue-chip quarterback Trae Taylor and dynamic athlete Tory Pittman III, this class is shaping up to be one of the best in recent program history. The atmosphere from the blackout game at Memorial Stadium — even in a close loss — clearly resonated with recruits like Ellis, who want to be part of something special in Lincoln.
What’s Next
Nebraska’s staff isn’t done yet. All eyes now turn to running back Amir Brown, a highly sought-after 3-star prospect from Rolesville, North Carolina. With the Huskers’ running back room looking thin beyond Emmett Johnson, the chance for early playing time could make Lincoln an attractive destination for Brown.
The addition of Ellis adds another explosive weapon to Nebraska’s future offense — and further cements the Huskers as a recruiting powerhouse heading into 2027.
