Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has described Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s latest injury as “incredibly bitter” after the Barcelona goalkeeper sustained a problem after moving to Girona on loan.
Early reports
suggest Ter Stegen could be out for several months and may even require surgery on a hamstring injury.
The news once again puts Ter Stegen’s World Cup 2026 place in doubt, and Nagelsmann has sympathy for his goalkeeper.
“This is incredibly bitter. Marc had just returned and was on a really good path; we were very much looking forward to his return to the national team. Right now, the only thing that matters is getting healthy, in peace and without pressure. We all stand behind him,” he told SID.
“Now we have to continue to do without him. But for Marc personally, this setback is of course much harder.”
Girona are yet to provide an official diagnosis on Ter Stegen as he was due to undergo further tests.
The club posted an update yesterday which read: “The player will undergo further medical examinations to confirm the diagnosis and determine the prognosis.”
