Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou Hoops and Football
After a 1-0 start to SEC play with a win over defending National Champions Florida, it’s safe to say that Mizzou Basketball capitalized on the momentum with a 73-68 road victory over Kentucky.
First ever win at Rupp Arena? Check.
First 2-0 start to SEC play … ever? Check.
Mark Mitchell continued
his impressive senior campaign — leading Mizzou with 21 points. More from Rory Whetsone in the gamer. It’s a statement win for sure, and now the Tigers will look to go to 3-0 in SEC play on Saturday in Oxford against a struggling Ole Miss team.

Onto football coverage — we’ve got three more transfer portal additions on Wednesday:

This hire sucks. It’s uncreative, it doesn’t address any of the actual issues, doesn’t offer any intriguing portal pieces, and furthers the run-through of Drinkwitz’s rolodex. But it’s going to make him feel the best about how he can win games and, in the end, we’re paying him $11 million a year to do what he wants. That’s the deal.
Prove Nate wrong, Chip Lindsey!
- MBB Preview from Matthew Gustafson: Mizzou looks for 2-0 start to SEC play facing Kentucky
- Recruiting Reset from me: Caleb Goodie Brings a Whole Bunch of Speed to Mizzou’s Wide Receiver Room
While he might not become the go-to wide receiver for this Mizzou team next season — he has the potential to serve as a valuable depth piece. The biggest skillset for Goodie is his speed for sure.
Welcome to Mizzou, Caleb Goodie!
It will be another tough week ahead for Mizzou, as they face No. 7 Vanderbilt on the road (editor’s note: on their weirdo court) before returning home against Alabama. These two teams also have a current combined record of 30-1.
After an 0-2 start to SEC play, things don’t get any easier for Kellie Harper’s team. However, it appears Shannon Dowell will be back in action, as she’s listed as probable.
With two years of eligibility remaining, the Naples, Florida, product racked up 20 tackles, an interception, a sack and three tackles for loss this past season in 11 games. As a true freshman, he appeared in eight games. Jumping straight to the SEC and playing as a true freshman tells you what kind of talent Louidor-Faustin is.
Auburn’s defense was notably impressive vs Mizzou this season, and Drinkwitz has now landed two former Auburn players.
Work has been a constant presence on the Bulldogs line for the past two years, playing in 22 games with 14 starts over his freshman and sophomore seasons. He’s spent most of his time at both left and right tackle but also has experience at the guard positions, giving Eli Drinkwitz and Chip Lindsey a versatile option to plug-and-play.
Never a bad thing to get SEC experience at the offensive line position.
Fields becomes the second receiver that Missouri has secured in the portal this offseason with Cincinnati’s Caleb Goodie being the first.
Hey, another former Auburn player!
For the first time since joining the SEC, Mizzou opens conference play 2-0. Meanwhile, it’s the first time since 2013 that Kentucky has lost its conference home opener.
What a stat here.
Plus, there’s PLENTY of ongoing transfer portal updates.
