When the Utah Jazz drafted Cody Williams No. 10 overall out of Colorado in the 2024 NBA Draft, they knew they were getting a project.
With an impressive height, wingspan and standing reach, there was one specific aspect of Williams’ physique that needed to change for him to hang with pros in the NBA: his weight.
Williams was measured at 6-foot-6 1/2 at the 2024 NBA Draft combine, but only weighed 178 pounds, making him the lightest non-guard and the third lightest player in the combine. The next closest
forward to Williams was Johnny Furphy, who was a full 10 pounds heavier than Williams.
Because of this and the physical toll of playing at the highest level in the world day in and day out had on Williams’ slender frame, he made it a goal to bulk up in the offseason.

On June 30, Williams spoke to media after practice to discuss just how much he is working to tack on some extra pounds. Apparently, Williams was eating 4,800 calories a day.
“You don’t even eat food to taste it. You’re just eating it to get calories. Mashed potatoes, that’s a good one. Mac and cheese. Steak. I really like steak. I can really eat whatever,” Williams said.
“At this point, I hate everything I eat.”
So how much did all these extra calories add for Williams?
According to the Salt Lake Tribune’s Andy Larsen, Williams has gained 13 pounds over the offseason.

That is great progress in only his first offseason. The Jazz would like Williams to break that 200 pound marker — at least 200, more would be ideal. No official weight has been listed yet for Williams.
Williams only averaged 4.6 points per game on a shockingly low 32.3% from the field in 50 games during his rookie season. He fared much better in this past summer’s NBA 2k Summer League, averaging 20.4 points with 46.3% | 34.2% | 72.2% shooting splits.
