The Baltimore Orioles are trading catcher Adley Rutschman to the Boston Red Sox, per multiple reports.
Rustchman, 28, is currently on the injured list, but is expected to be ready to return in the near future. The first overall pick in the 2019 draft out of Oregon State, Rutschman was second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 and 12th in the MVP voting, then followed up with a 9th place finish in the MVP voting in 2023. His bat regressed in 2024 and 2025, and he has had injury
issues this year, as well as last year, though his .251/.331/.433 slash line this year represents an improvement over 2024 and 2025.
Rutschman is under contract for $7.25 million this year, and will be eligible for free agency after the 2027 season.
No word yet on who the Orioles are getting back from Boston. We will update when we know more.
