Jimmy Jacobs, who has drawn praise for his tenure as a writer on WWE’s creative team from 2015 to 2017, recently opened up about his time in the company, as well as what it was like working with then-WWE boss Vince McMahon.
According to Jacobs, McMahon came off as a “psychopath” who routinely bullied his employees.
Jacobs, who later enjoyed stints on the creative teams at TNA and AEW after his time at WWE, is also an active professional wrestler, perhaps best known for his time in Ring of Honor. Currently,
he’s doing work with Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling in Canada and coaches at the House of Truth wrestling school in the Detroit area of Michigan.
One of his more entertaining contributions while working for WWE’s creative was pitching “The List of Jericho,” which helped rejuvenate the run Chris Jericho was on at the time.
However, while speaking on the After the Bell podcast, Jacobs indicated that his time at WWE had its share of difficulties, and it started at the top.
“He was a crazy person. Vince McMahon was a psychopath,” Jacobs said. “That’s the sort of personality type he is, right? He’s like an overt malignant narcissist — not to use catchphrase words, because I’m not using that hyperbolically. That’s his personality type.
“I was around Vince McMahon not very long before I saw, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t trade places with this guy for one second.’ Not for one second. Because for everything he has, he has nothing, because he’s a psychopath. And when you’re a psychopath, you’re incapable of love.”
His stinging characterization of his former employer continued with Jacobs saying, “Vince McMahon’s a bully. He’s a maniac. He’s an abuser. All the things that have come out, every story you’ve heard about him, it’s something like true. That’s who he is.”
According to Jacobs, McMahon was hard on most people, but he did treat his favorites differently.
“The people that I saw Vince treat well: Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, and Blackjack Lanza…But other than the names I listed, at different points, he would bury, be down on, [saying] ‘This guy doesn’t know what he’s doing,’ everybody else.”
He concluded his thoughts on McMahon by reiterating that he thinks the former wrestling promoter/executive is legitimately a psychopath.
“It’s what it is. There’s a lot of other psychopaths out in the world, but Vince McMahon’s one of them. Because he has that sort of personality type, he’ll take risks. He’ll step on people,” Jacobs said. “He’ll do what it takes to get what he wants, and that’s really what a psychopath ends up being: Somebody that will take anything in reality and use it to get what they want…So you don’t love people, you use people.”
