Marquette volleyball was already on the edge of losing their AVCA top 25 poll votes last week when they snagged just 10 points worth of votes. This week, after losing to Xavier for the first regular season
Big East loss to a team not named Creighton since October 2023? Yeah, those points are GONE as of the release of this week’s top 25.
Normally I would say that Marquette’s best way back in is by stacking up wins, but believe it or not, we’re actually into the final month of the regular season now. As such, Marquette has their road trip to Creighton set for four matches from now. The poll will only update one time between now and then, and I don’t think beating Georgetown or Villanova is going to get the attention back on the Golden Eagles. Beating the Bluejays on November 1? Seeing as they’re ranked #13 in the country right now and will probably be there in less than two weeks? That might help some votes to fly back in MU’s direction.
Wisconsin is still the top ranked team on Marquette’s schedule this season, although that is a much closer situation than it has been in past weeks. The 13-3 Badgers tumbled three spots to #12 in the new poll, so they’re only one spot and 104 points in front of Creighton. Minnesota is MU’s only other opponent in the top 25 with the Gophers dropping two spots to #20 this week.
Florida and Western Kentucky are down in the Receiving Votes area this week. The Gators picked up 118 points to be the unofficial #26 team in the country, while the Hilltoppers earned 10 points worth of votes here.
Marquette returns to action on Friday, October 24th, when they visit Georgetown. First serve is set for 6pm Central, and 24 hours later, the Golden Eagles will be back in action a little bit further north for a road match against Villanova. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.
