Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight-turned-bareknuckle fighter, Randy Costa, competed in a Muay Thai bout this past weekend (Fri., Sept. 12, 2025) at Cage Titans: Ring Titans 1 inside Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Costa walked away with a hard-fought, unanimous decision win over Joe Penafiel in a fun, competitive scrap. However, the 31-year-old also walked away with a brutal souvenir — a broken jaw suffered in the very first round.
“The Zohan” revealed
the news on social media earlier today, posting a fresh scan of his fractured jaw and explaining what he endured during the fight.
“Fresh scan of my jaw. Broke my shit in the first round. Fought 2 rds with it looking like this. I can’t even begin to express the things I learned about myself the other night.. and like I had said before the fight, that’s what this is all about. I don’t even care about the broken jaw….I earned this one. I’m so fkn proud of myself and so thankful. S/o the journey of self discovery.
Follow up appt in 2 weeks. As long as no changes, looks like surgery/wiring is avoided. If there’s a change then I’ll be getting a plate put in my shit. I’m optimistic it’ll be all good tho. Looking like a 4-6 week rest to let this thing heal and then back rockin right away.
Fun times were had.. That’s for sure, haha”
After his UFC release in late 2022 following a three-fight skid, Costa picked up a knockout win on the regional scene (watch it) before diving into the world of bareknuckle fighting. He’s since competed for Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion twice and made his BKFC debut this past summer against Nick Burgos.
While this latest setback will keep Costa sidelined for the remainder of 2025, the New England fan-favorite is already optimistic about returning to action next year — battle-tested and, apparently, tougher than ever.
