With NFL cutdown day looming on Tuesday, teams are in the process of reducing their rosters from the offseason 90 to the in-season 53.
Sometimes, that process can include trades, with a flurry of such roster moves occurring in the last several days. And the Steelers could be the next team to participate.
Per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Pittsburgh has informed rookie kicker Ben Sauls that he will be waived before the cutdown deadline if the team can’t find a trade destination for him.
Sauls, a 2025 undrafted free agent, was brought in to back up Steelers All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell over the summer.
Sauls made 21 of 24 attempts in his final collegiate season, including a long of 58 yards. And in the 2025 preseason with the Steelers, he made five of six attempts, including a four-of-four performance in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers with a long of 50 yards.
A possible trade partner could be the Miami Dolphins. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that the team will be without former All-Pro kicker Jason Sanders for four to five weeks with a hip injury, meaning the team will have to make an outside addition at the position.
