Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth €80 million, including add-ons.
The move puts an expected end to Gordon’s time at St James’ Park after he spent three-and-a-half years in Tyneside, with the winger already undergoing his medical in Spain on Thursday, right before he joins the Three Lions for the 2026 World Cup.
According to reports, the complete fee can reach up to €80m (£69.3m) if all potential add-ons and bonus payments are eventually
activated.
Gordon finished the season as Newcastle’s top scorer with 17 goals, including 10 in the Champions League. He had four years remaining on the long-term contract he signed in October 2024.
Bayern Munich had held a strong interest in the England international and looked bound to land the England international, but Barcelona moved ahead in the race in the final minute and hijacked the deal themselves.
“Sky Germany reported Bayern Munich were not planning to make a rival bid,” Sky Sports reported.
Gordon was left unused in Newcastle’s final four matches as the club protected him ahead of an expected summer transfer, with his move likely before and pretty clear after Eddie Howe’s benching decisions.
Good luck, Anthony!
