We’ve been tracking Drew McIntyre’s Dave Bautista-assisted rise in Hollywood, because as fans of Big D we’re rooting for his success… and are looking for clues as to when he might return to WWE programming, which could also give us indications as to what McIntyre might be doing when he gets back to SmackDown (or Raw… there’s been a fair amount of roster movement between Monday and Friday nights since we last saw Drew at WrestleMania in April.
The Scotsman left to make movies, first the Highlander
reboot with Bautista, Henry Cavill, Jon Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski, and then The Last Druid with Academy Award winner (and former(?) ‘round the world fighter*) Russell Crowe, who is also in the new Highlander.
Yesterday, McIntyre posted some gym pics with Crowe. That was pretty much all he told us about what’s going on with him…
But the Romper Stomper, Gladiator, and Nuremberg spilled a little more tea while sharing one of those pics:
In the gym with Drew McIntyre. Good lad. Salt of the earth. Just finishing up the shoot on The Last Druid. We have been shooting in Spain since May. It has been two years now since playing Hermann Goering in Nuremberg. The long sweaty days in the beautiful Spanish sunshine have definitely been a great motivator. As I always say, it’s one layer of tissue paper at a time. Consistency is your friend.
So we haven’t heard about any other movie roles Drew’s landed, so The Last Druid’s wrap could mean he’s headed back to get in the mix. That may not happen right away, either because he does have other things planned or because WWE will wait for the right creative opening to bring him back. But barring news, I’d bet he’s around for Survivor Series.
And good for Maximus for shedding the “early Orson Welles” bod he’s been rocking for the past several years! We could have told him Drew was a good lad.
