For those who have been sleeping over the last few weeks, we’ve assembled 64 of the finer things in life, chosen somewhat randomly and arranged even more randomly into a 64-team March Madness bracket. Every day we highlight two posts, each offering a head-to-head choice between these good things. You pick one to advance and one to go home. This post features two landslide winners from Round 1: Kissing and The Beatles.
The Beatles changed the world back in the 1960’s, invading America from Great Britain with a catalog of spiffed up and redone R&B/Rock-and-Roll tunes. They weren’t the first to do what they did, but they were among the best, and ultimately the most creative. An onslaught of hits followed, with experimentation in fields from country to orchestral to heavy metal. John, Paul, George, and Ringo are still revered today, seemingly rediscovered every 20 years or so. They are THE archetype of the guitar-and-drums-and-keyboard band.
Can any band prevail over the basic, human smooch, though? Kissing is one of the oldest and most direct forms of human interaction. It can convey anything from greeting and simple affection to, well…hubba hubba. Your heartrate might have quickened the first time you heard “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, but you KNOW it quickened the first time someone planted a kiss on your lips. And it probably has most times since, too. Like The Beatles, kissing never really gets old.
