There’s delusion and then there’s this.
On March 15, FC Barcelona members will go to the polls to vote in the next club president. The race is hot, and candidates are trying to stand out from the crowd. So, a certain Xavier Vilajoana has just promised to sign Harry Kane from Bayern Munich if he’s elected to the presidency.
Just check out the tweet he posted:
Caring for our La Masia players has been my utmost priority, but we will always need the ability to attract elite talent.
We can make it happen.
By putting an end to financial chaos and returning to the 1:1 rule.
A signing for me is a signing for an ambitious Barcelona.
The wording of that tweet is pure pandering. If anyone is fooled by it, well… they’d have to be a seriously die-hard Barcelona fan.
Harry Kane has been linked with Barca for some time now, with reports claiming that the club sees him as a replacement for the ageing Robert Lewandowski. Kane, however, is comfortable in Munich, and the club is working on a contract extension.
This statement by a Barca candidate is just another in a long line of outlandish claims. Will it help him to win the presidency? Well, that remains to be seen. No one ever accused politicians of being realistic or humble people.
