Commanders reinforcements are starting to come in. Cornerback Trey Amos, defensive lineman Deatrich Wise Jr. and running back Jeremy McNichols have had their 21-day practice window opened to return off of injured reserve.
Washington made those announcements on Wednesday afternoon.
Wise (quad) is on the physically unable to perform list and Amos (ankle) and McNichols (quad) are on injured reserve with a designation to return way back when the original 53-man roster was formed.
This is a positive development
for the Commanders, who need reinforcements at all of those positions. Head coach Dan Quinn didn’t define when those guys will be available for activation to the 53-man roster.
It will probably take some time before we see any of those players get activated, especially considering how long it has been since any of them has practiced.
Eyes will certainly be on Amos, considering how the cornerback corps has struggled, but the second-year pro has practiced just oncesince suffering a fractured fibula during the 2025 season. He incurred an ankle issue during that practice, which was a giant setback at the time.
Amos is probably the team’s most talented cornerback and will welcome him back with open arms when ad if he’s ready for a return off of IR.
As a rule, these individuals we’re discussing have three weeks to work their way to a point where they can be activated off of their respective lists. If not, they can remain on either IR of PUP but their designation becomes season ending.
