Earlier this past week, I asked the following question:
What are the biggest takeaways from your Miami Dolphins, their training camp thus far, the two scrimmages, and the two preseason games? Which areas of this team and roster, if any, are you more disappointed in than you expected to be at this point, and which area, if any, are you pleasantly surprised with, and how well or how quickly is it coming together?
Below are some of your thougths and answers-
Phoenix6 says it’s quick enough for him!
What
are the biggest takeaways from your Miami Dolphins? They are very changed. Top to bottom. From vice president to coaches. Every player position save 10 on 1st stringers. Very refreshing.
How’s their training camp thus far, the two scrimmages, and the two preseason games? So far, it’s as expected. Camp with a new philosophy is adjusting, players buying in, with the two scrimmages showing individual improvements & team fight. – The two games were also as expected. Plain, great effort, better coaching.
Which areas of this team and roster, if any, are you more disappointed in than you expected to be at this point? The regression of players & backup units. Like Ken Grant, Ollie Gordon & the backup QB unit. Should have been better.
Which area, if any, are you pleasantly surprised with? Love Linebackers, Brooks is way awesome… & the newbies are showing great promise for the heart of a defense.
How well or how quickly is it coming together? Quick enough for me. Idk about how quick it’s gelling for the coaches or players… but I believe it’s coming along just fine for them too as I haven’t heard anything negative in that regard… the direction, development or learning curve.
Yarganaught highlighted some areas that are good at this point.
Difficult to answer just based on the 30 seconds the starters played and the limited information we’ve received from a preseason of practices, but…
- Willis seems to be good
- The O-line seems to be good
- Achane seems to be good
- The D-line/LBs seem to be good
That’s just my early opinion at this point of having watched next to none of them actually playing/practicing.
sdphinsfan can’t believe it might finally be time to believe in the offensive line.
Can’t believe I’m going to say this…the words when grouped together are so foreign that it just doesn’t seem right. But based on the very short amount of what we’ve seen, this OL has the potential to be a top 5 group by the end of the year if they can stay on the field. They won’t start there, but they ain’t bad…Drafting Proctor and putting him at LG has solidified both G positions. Savi has already shown improvement. Proctor is a beast. Paul is progressing. Brew and Jackson look good. I know, the injuries will come and we’ll be signing guys off the street by the end of September. But I’m going to bask in this for a couple of weeks.
Another reason for hope. All of the guys we drafted in Rds 1-3 (plus Trey Moore) have shown up a bit. That’s what, 7 guys? What a change from past years….
Dolfanjoe knows that a bad season might be on the horizon, but everyone in charge is prepared for it.
What’s better ? The front office and Coaching staff actually have enough sense to realize we are in a total rebuild and salary cap dump. No ridiculous signings. Accepting that we will put a team out there void of depth and star power. Yes they will try and win every game. Yes there will be injury’s to the starting 22 and what is behind them are not quality starting NFL players. But they have accepted this reality ! No one is getting fired for a dismal season.
Now in camp there are a few surprises. Linebacker depth is good. Rookie receivers are going to get a chance to shine with basically a rookie QB. Positions that are slim can and will be reinforced by tryouts all year long. Practice squads and street free agents can make an improvement. 26 will be tough for those concerned with win loss. But all should be past that and looking towards this teams future and how they get us there !
SlayerNation1 believes the theory is about to be tested.
Presuming they have a more competent FO, and that is a big presumption at this point:
We can finally test the theory that it is far better to be really bad than to be really mediocre.
Good timing as the entire league is entering unwatchable status.
heatforlife points out that we don’t really know much, given as little as we have seen of the starters this preseason.
WEve seen first team offense one series and i believe they scored .W/o any starters playing i have no idea how good or bad this team will be.I will have a better idea after the raiders game.I dont make any judgements based on pre season means nothing
MiamiItaliano, like me, is very concerned about the backup quarterback at this point. Hopefully they address it once cuts begin.
Considering all the time the defense had to play on the field, the backup secondary and linebacker groups appear to be improving. Seriously, both teams should have dropped 50 points each on the Dolphins but the defense didn’t let it get THAT bad.
By far, the backup QB group is getting worse more than any group. Miller shouldn’t be in the league. Ewers is too inconsistent. I hope Gronowski gets more playing time in game three since Ewers is hurt. If Malik gets hurt in the regular season, might as well change the channel and watch something else.
StanleyDoyle1 knows better than to get their hopes up given the results of the past several regimes.
I have no expectations. I can’t. I’m praying that this will not be the wash-rinse-repeat of every other great new regime that comes into town, as what we are seeing and hearing now is evocative of the pie-eyed, “now we’re going to be violent” rhetoric we heard during the training camps of Joe Philbin, Adam Gase, Brian Flores, et al. I’m hoping this new personnel staff can spot and develop talent better than the people who oversaw the mediocrity of the past 20 years.
PA phinphan is happy to see a team that plays like a team, even if there are going to be some growing pains.

This team is a team. The players have a team first mentality instead of me first. It is so refreshing in today’s gimme world. After the incident(s) with the Giants, I feel like this team isn’t going to just rollover. They are going to fight.
Which areas of this team and roster, if any, are you more disappointed in than you expected to be at this point,
With low expectations to start, it is hard to be disappointed by any area of this team. Maybe the punter??
and which area, if any, are you pleasantly surprised with, and how well or how quickly is it coming together?
I am hoping the initial offensive drive against Washington is a sign of things to come for the offensive line. I know there will be times it doesn’t look that good. But, I am expecting the highs to be more than the lows.
Also, I am so VERY pleased that they no longer have stuck-in-the-mud noodle arm at QB anymore.
FLexile has an interesting question.
The McTuaectomy surgery was successful. Now the team is going through the rehabilitation process. Hopefully they achieve 100% recovery sooner than expected.
Will the Dolphins win more games than Tua starts or even plays in?
Holtster is going all old school.
“Got no money and you got no car
Then you got no woman and there you are”— Young MC
The Dolphins no longer have any Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bugattis, or McLarens. It’s Ford and Chevy until they clear their books. Then, as Young MC put it, they “can bust a move.”
Jptapt says it sucks, it all sucks, everything sucks.
My view of this team is bad. Really bad. I don’t think after two games anything has gotten worse because they were already as low as you can go.
Having said that, I totally expected this. You got no money, you got no team.
Waiting another year. Again.
Well, there are a lot of opinions all over the place, with some positive and some not as much, and others knowing that this process is going to take time and is going to be a bit painful at times. I will be happy if they are better at the end of the season than at the beginning, with a steady progression that gives the team something positive to start from next season. As always, thank you to each of you who took the time to join us and answer our Phinsider Question Of The Day.
