The full focus of the footballing world is fully fixated on the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, but summer transfer rumors are also swirling behind the scenes. There will likely be medicals done oversees as deals are made, scouts sent to different World Cup matches to watch transfer targets, and front office members meeting in World Cup host cities in the backdrop of the tournament going on — nothing too out of the ordinary for a major tournament summer.
For Bayern Munich, they’ve
missed out on both Anthony Gordon and Kennet Eichhorn, but are reportedly close to securing left back Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt; a deal that could very well be completed before Germany even plays their second group stage match at the World Cup. Elsewhere on the pitch, Bayern are still looking for reinforcements in either attack or midfield, as they’ve lost Leon Goretzka, Nicolas Jackson and Raphaël Guerreiro at the end of this past season. Ideally, Vincent Kompany and Bayern’s front office would like a backup for Harry Kane as well as reinforcement on the left wing to backup Luis Díaz.
Per information from football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), the German Rekordmeister have made loose inquires for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, who is with the England squad for the World Cup after a season long loan stint at Barcelona. He finished the season as a LaLiga champion after tallying 14 goals and 14 assists from a total of 49 appearances across all competitions.
Per Romano, Bayern made a handful of phone calls to Rashford’s representatives to see what his current situation was, asking if he would be an option at all to be sold this summer. Barcelona had already made it clear they will not be activating the 30-million-euro buy-on clause that was attached to his loan deal from Manchester United, so his future hangs in the balance. Will there still be room for him in the Red Devils’ attack?
Despite the loose inquiries from Bayern, as things currently stand, the England international is not considered to be a realistic option at this juncture. Kompany and Bayern are looking for a player more along the lines of Ismael Saibari, who would be more affordable and more of a profile the club would be looking for given how much higher Rashford’s salary would be. While Bayern very much appreciate the England man and his attributes, the interest is loose at this point and that likely won’t change this summer unless Manchester United would be willing to listen to offers more in Bayern’s price range and the player himself being open to potentially taking a salary cut.
