Jose Delgado will be back.
The rising Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight prospect suffered a third-round submission loss to top Brazilian contender Jean Silva in the main event of Noche UFC 4 this past weekend (Sat., Sept. 12, 2026) inside Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona (watch highlights).
Delgado accepted the biggest opportunity of his career on approximately three weeks’ notice, replacing former interim Featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez and headlining a UFC event in front
of his hometown crowd.
After taking a day to gather his thoughts, Delgado released a statement addressing the first main event loss of his UFC career.
“Well, shit, so it goes,” Delgado wrote on Instagram. “Dared to be great yesterday and came up short. But man, I loved every second of being on that stage with high-level opposition; that includes the heartbreaking pain of failure. Pure freedom. Insert something cliche about bouncing back here. Thank you to God for His guidance and my village for backing me. Also, thanks to everyone in that arena for making that walk what it was. Love y’all.”
Despite stepping in on short notice, Delgado (12-3) was extremely confident he would “put down” Silva — and for the first five minutes, it looked like he might pull off the upset.
Delgado dropped Silva with a clean right hand in the opening round and repeatedly found success with his power. However, Silva began taking control in the second round by increasing his pressure and mixing in his grappling.
The loss snapped Delgado’s two-fight winning streak and dropped his UFC record to 4-2. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old remains one of the most dangerous unranked Featherweights on the roster and proved he can compete on a massive stage against elite opposition.
Delgado will likely finish 2026 with a 2-1 record after competing three times in seven months. Once he is ready to return in 2027, perhaps UFC will give him another opportunity to break into the rankings.
