Only a few Bayern Munich loanees had a match this week. Alexander Nübel faced Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin. João Palhinha and Spurs needed a result to stay in the Premier League. We expected to see Southampton and Daniel Peretz in Webley on Saturday, but that did not happen. Serie A finished this week and we saw some playoff action in Austria and Switzerland. See how these all went below. Note: Loanees without a match this week were left out of the article.
FC Bayern Munich
There are 11 players from
on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are three players from the first team on loan to the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Arijon Ibrahimović, and Armando Sieb.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Nübel was in goal for the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin against his parent club. He and Stuttgart frustrated Bayern in the first half and his two saves kept the match scoreless at halftime. Unfortunately for Nübel, Harry Kane went for blood in the second half. He had three saves on the day but could not stop Kane in any of his three shots on goal. Kane’s hattrick secured a 3-0 win for Bayern against Stuttgart.
Despite Stuttgart failing to defend their DFB-Pokal, they still had a successful season, finishing in fourth place and getting back to the Champions League.
England – Premier League
There are two players on loan to the English Premier League: João Palhinha and Jonah Kusi-Asare.
João Palhinha – Tottenham
Tottenham went into the final day of the season not safe from the threat of relegation. Palhinha had perhaps the best match of his career in the most important match for Spurs in recent history. He started and played the full 90 minutes. He had five shots — one on target, two off target, and two blocked — all in the first half. His fourth shot went off the near post and bounced right back to his foot. He poked the ball towards the far post and the ball barely went over the line — needing goal-line technology to confirm the good goal. He also completed 86% of his passes and created two chances for his teammates to shoot. On defense he had four tackles, a blocked shot, five clearances — all with his head — two interceptions, and five recoveries. In addition to his goal, Palhinha had the most shots, the most defensive contributions, and most touches. His performance helped Spurs win 1-0 and guarantee their spot in the Premier League next season.
Spurs finished in 17th place for the second season in a row but this time did not win a European trophy.
Jonah Kusi-Asare – Fulham
Kusi-Asare was not in the matchday squad for the final match. Fulham beat Newcastle United 2-0 at home.
Fulham finished in eleventh place this season.
England – Championship
Daniel Peretz is the only player on loan to England’s Championship.
Daniel Peretz – Southampton
At last writing, Peretz was preparing to help his team play in the promotion final at Wembley. This week, the EFL expelled Southampton from the playoffs due to the spying scandal between their two semi-final matches against Middlesborough. Middlesborough took their place and fell to Hull City in Saturday’s final.
Southampton’s failure to earn promotion could cost Bayern. The option to buy would have been triggered automatically with promotion. Southampton will likely want to keep Peretz, but the transfer fee to a Championship team would be smaller than that to a Premier League team.
Italy – Serie A
Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Serie A.
Bryan Zaragoza – AS Roma
Zaragoza finished the final match for Roma — a 2-0 away win against Hellas Verona — with a knee injury.
Roma finished the season with five straight wins, which propelled them to a third place finish and a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Switzerland – Super League
Lovro Zvonarek is the only player on loan from the first team to the Swiss Super League.
Lovro Zvonarek – Grasshopper
Zvonarek started and played the full 90 minutes for Grasshopper in the first leg of their relegation playoff away to the second division runner up, Aarau. He had one shot attempt — off target — and created two chances for his teammates to shoot. He also helped his team keep a shutout with a tackle, two clearances, and seven recoveries. Grasshopper was unable to find a goal and the first leg ended in a scoreless draw.
Zvonarek started in the second leg of the relegation playoff. He opened the scoring in the 30th minute to make it 1-0. He had three shots total — a goal, one off target, and on blocked. His team conceded a goal shortly before halftime and neither team scored in the second half. Zvonarek was subbed off seven minutes into extra time with the match still level at 1-1. Grasshopper found the winning goal though a penalty in the 110th minute. They won 2-1 and will remain in the Swiss Super League next season.
FC Bayern Munich II
There are 15 players on loan from the second team.
Germany – Bundesliga
Felipe Chávez is the only player on loan from the second team to a Bundesliga team.
Switzerland – Super League
Johnathan Asp Jensen is the only player from the second team on loan to the Swiss Super League.
Johnathan Asp Jensen – Grasshopper
Asp started and played the full 90 minutes for Grasshopper in the first leg of the relegation playoff. He had five shots — two on goal, two off target, and on blocked. This was the most of any one from either team. Asp was unable to help his team find a goal but helped keep Aarau off the board with one tackle, two clearances, one interception, and six recoveries. The first leg ended in a scoreless draw.
Grasshopper hosted the second leg of the relegation playoff. Asp started again and this time had four shot attempts — all blocked — and created one chance for his teammates to shoot. He was subbed off in the 68th minute with the match level at 1-1. The match went into extra time still level 1-1. Grasshopper won the match in the 110th minute. Grasshopper will stay in the Swiss Super League for at least another season.
Austria – Bundesliga
There are two players on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga: Maximillian Hennig and Jussef Nasarawe.
Jussef Nasrawe – SV Ried
Nasrawe started for Ried in the semifinal of the playoff for the Conference League and played the full 90 minutes. He had four shots — two on goal, two off target — and created one chance for his teammates to shoot. He received a yellow card in the 61st minute for a bad foul. Ried had two late goals to win 2-1 and advance to the final.
On Friday, Ried hosted Rapid Wien in the first leg of the final. Nasrawe started and played the full 90 minutes again. He helped open the scoring in the 14th minute when he assisted the opening goal. He also tried one shot which was blocked. Both teams sc0red late goals and Ried won 2-1.
The return leg will be on Monday.
FC Bayern Munich Frauen
There is one player on loan from the women’s team.
Brazil – Brasileirão Feminino
Ana Guzmán is the only player on loan to Brazil’s Brasileirão Feminino.
Ana Guzmán – SE Palmeiras
Guzmán was on the bench for Palmerias against Ferroviária. She came into the match in the 73rd minute. She did not have a chance to influence the match with a stat of any significance. Palmeiras fell 2-1.
Ferroviária started on Sunday against Red Bull Bragantino. She played 79 minutes and helped her team win 2-1 on the road. Other stats are not known for her.
Palmeiras will host Corinthians in the Cup on Saturday.
