Is there really a chance that WWE might resort to bringing back Vince Russo to its creative team? Let’s see what today’s rumors have to say about it!
Top rumor of the day: Vince Russo’s surprise talks with WWE
Following up on Conrad Thompson’s claim that Vince Russo was in talks to return to WWE, Fightful The Hump’s Sean Ross Sapp says numerous WWE writers, producers, and agents hadn’t heard about that and “completely laughed it off.”
However, someone at WWE headquarters said Russo was indeed in the building and the conversation did happen. Even so, Sapp was outright
told “he is not coming in,” and people outside of WWE headquarters were never told about it.
PWInsider also chimed in on the story by noting it was Russo who initially contacted WWE President Nick Khan, and not the other way around. It doesn’t sound like WWE was ever tempted to bring Russo back into the fold.
So, it seems that WWE fans dodged a bullet here, and Russo will remain on the outside looking in when it comes to WWE creative.
The rest of the rumors!
- ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne says WWE President Nick Khan was willing to move the start time of this week’s SmackDown to 9 pm ET to help sort out the mess of scheduling Game 6 of the WNBA Finals in prime time. However, that plan “fell apart,” which is related to why Game 6 is now being played today at 12:30 pm ET in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.
- Multiple outlets indicate that Finn Balor vs. GUNTHER is being locally advertised for the WWE Crown Jewel PLE in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
- Per Fightful Select, Toni Storm’s teased return to AEW doesn’t mean she is cleared to wrestle. However, there are “other elements involving her” that could be worked into AEW programming.
- Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp says WWE knew “pretty early on” that Montez Ford’s hot lap dance incident with the security guard on Raw in July was going to be a problem. Sapp doesn’t know if that’s related to why the Street Profits and Seth Rollins have been off TV, but thinks the timing of it “is quite interesting.”
- According to PWInsider, Nick Khan spoke at TKO’s rah rah town hall meeting on Wednesday. He specifically named Oba Femi, Sol Ruca, Je’Von Evans, and Bron Breakker as some of WWE’s upcoming stars.
- Insider also mentioned that George Iceman’s TNA contract is set to expire early next month. The two sides have not reached an agreement, and it appears that the promotion is ready to move on without Iceman.
