While the 21-day return windows opened for wide receiver Mack Hollins and guard Greg Van Roten, the New England Patriots practiced without an offensive captain on Wednesday.
Hunter Henry was among four non-participants in Foxborough as Green Bay Packers work got underway. After sustaining a foot injury last weekend, the tight end stayed sidelined alongside running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver A.J. Brown and defensive tackle Christian Barmore.
Here’s the first injury report ahead of Sunday’s
4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
Patriots
- RB TreVeyon Henderson (illness)
- WR A.J. Brown (ankle, knee)
- TE Hunter Henry (foot)
- DT Christian Barmore (illness)
Packers
- TE Josh Whyle (concussion)
- OT Travis Glover (knee)
- C Sean Rhyan (ankle)
- LB Zaire Franklin (shin)
Henry injured his foot before halftime last weekend against the Miami Dolphins. After heading to and from the locker room, the tenured tight end tested things out yet was ultimately downgraded to out in the final quarter. His outing spanned eight offensive snaps as well three catches for 30 yards. That sent rookies Eli Raridon and Tanner Arkin up the depth chart along with August waiver claim Cameron Latu.
Elsewhere for New England’s 53-man roster, illnesses kept Henderson and Barmore away on Wednesday. The running back had been ruled out for the AFC East meeting at Hard Rock Stadium after missing three straight practices last week, while the defensive tackle started and split a sack.
As for the No. 1 wide receiver, Brown missed back-to-back sessions before the road trip with a knee issue in addition to the high ankle sprain that landed him on injured reserve in September. The three-time All-Pro was downgraded from questionable on the eve of the 4:25 p.m. ET divisional kickoff as DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, Efton Chism III and standard elevation Ryan Miller made up the wideout room.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
Patriots
- WR Mack Hollins (calf — IR return)
- OT Morgan Moses (foot)
- G Greg Van Roten (hamstring — IR return)
- LB Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder, knee)
- LB Gabe Jacas (knee)
- CB Carlton Davis III (neck)
- S Kevin Byard III (chest)
Packers
- RB Chris Brooks (ankle)
- WR Christian Watson (rib)
- G Aaron Banks (knee)
- LB Micah Parsons (knee — PUP return)
- CB Keisean Nixon (shoulder)
Hollins landed on injured reserve due to a calf injury in early October, while a hamstring injury sent Van Roten to the same destination in late September. The 33-year-old wide receiver and the 36-year-old interior lineman returned to practice as limited participants on Wednesday. They were not alone in that group.
Five members of the Patriots’ current active roster also went in a partial capacity. Count a rookie and a veteran outside linebacker among them because of knee and shoulder ailments. This campaign, the edge efforts of Jacas and Jones have netted 38 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, four sacks and an interception.
Two starters in the New England secondary also continue to manage neck and chest injuries, respectively, but both outlasted the inactives list in Miami Gardens.
FULL PARTICIPATION
Patriots
- QB Drake Maye (right shoulder)
Packers
- No players listed
And then there was one full participant listed for the Patriots.
Maye’s throwing shoulder has been on hand for 1,398 yards, 14 touchdowns and a pair of interceptions over his past five starts. The Patriots quarterback has added three rushing touchdowns during that torrid stretch. And last Sunday, he began November by completing 80 percent of his pass attempts.
Only one of those attempts hit the grass after halftime during the divisional visit as a 13-3 deficit became a 24-19 win.
