Real Madrid 4-1 RB Leipzig (Silva, Güler, Mbappé & Diomande). A strong performance ahead of the Clásico… This is the immediate reaction to the game. Coming up: Player ratings, press conferences and a ManagingMadrid podcast.
Champions League games are coming into the schedule rapidly at this point in the season, and the arrival of RB Leipzig would provide Vinícius Júnior with some game time amidst his La Liga suspension. Eduardo Camavinga was deployed in midfield, alongside Bernardo Silva. Dean Huijsen
also made his way onto the field. Yan Diomande was left on the bench against his former side. Fede Valverde captained Real Madrid.
Leipzig started brightly and Thibaut Courtois was required to make a quick, low save to stop them taking the lead. Real Madrid worked their way into the game, though – and managed to scrape an opening goal before half-time as the ball fortunately fell to Bernardo Silva as close to the goal-line as you can get. The midfielder tapped the ball in to send his side into the break 1-0 up.
Madrid pressed on, and Vinícius Júnior was looking dangerous from outside of the area. Arda Güler would then get an easy finish after being found by Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman would then cash in his goal-per-game ticket, bending a strike into the far corner to make it a comprehensive score-line. Leipzig would rapidly shrink the deficit, scoring one minute later after some messy Real Madrid defence allowed them in. The late action was not over, as substitute Yan Diomande, after just securing an assist, scored a preposterous volley that arrowed straight into the top corner. Ridiculous! Full-time, 4-1 to Real Madrid – and a fun victory ahead of the big one… How are you feeling heading into El Clásico?
