Bayern Munich has apparently decided that even preseason training needs a little more secrecy.
The club has installed a “spy-proof” wall around parts of its training ground, making it significantly more difficult for outsiders to get a look at what Vincent Kompany and his squad are working on behind closed doors.
So, is Bayern Munich going too far?
On one hand, it can certainly seem excessive. Training sessions are often open enough for journalists, fans, and photographers to get a glimpse of tactical
work, player development, and potential lineup decisions. Putting up a massive barrier can feel like another step toward making football increasingly inaccessible to supporters.
On the other hand, the modern game is incredibly competitive. Tactical information is valuable, and Bayern Munich has plenty of opponents who would love to learn exactly what Kompany is preparing. Set pieces, formations, pressing schemes, and new tactical wrinkles can all provide an advantage if kept secret.
There is also the reality of the modern media environment. With smartphones, social media, drones, and cameras everywhere, keeping training completely private has become increasingly difficult.
Maybe the wall is not paranoia. Maybe it is simply the reality of elite football.
