The Chicago Bears lost the season opener to the Minnesota Vikings, 27 to 24, after being up 17 to 6 after three quarters. But two Minnesota touchdown passes by J.J. McCarthy, followed by a touchdown run
by him, and the Vikings were up 27 to 17. Chicago quickly answered with a Caleb Williams touchdown run, capping off a 65-yard drive in 51 seconds. But with 2:02 left on the clock, the Minnesota kickoff return brought the game under two minutes, and with just one timeout, there wasn’t going to be enough time for the Bears.
Chicago got the ball back after forcing a three-and-out, but nine seconds weren’t enough to get into field goal range.
These two franchises are heading in opposite directions: the Bears (6-3), winners of six of their last seven games, and the Vikes (4-5), losers in three of their last four.
Regardless of record, this is an NFC North game, and it will be spirited.
