They say giving is the best part of Christmas and it seems that Luka Dončić agrees with that sentiment.
Luka has shown his generous side multiple times already during his 11 months as a Laker. Last year,
he donated $500,000 to LA wildfire relief and for his first game against the Mavericks in LA, he bought out a parking lot so fans could park for free.
This season, during training camp, he took his teammates out to the Porsche Driving Experience. And now, with the holidays upon us, it seemed a given that he’d have a gift for the team.
After practice on Tuesday, head coach JJ Redick revealed that Luka bought not just players, but everyone on the basketball side in the Lakers organization e-bikes.
“He got everybody in basketball ops, I think it was 103 total gifts,” Redick said. “It’ a very, very high-end e-bike. So I’ll be excited to drive that down to the beach, looking forward to it. Very nice gesture from him. The guys all really, really enjoyed it.”
These aren’t the most important things Luka can be doing, but everything matters.
These actions showcase the kind of person he is and the kind of environment he will cultivate as the face of the Lakers. Yes, they will work hard, aim for titles, but he’ll have fun, give when possible and be charitable to the team and fans.
“It’s just who he is,” Redick said. “He’s cognizant of the platform and sort of place that he has within each community that he’s been in, and L.A. has been no different, and this team has been no different.”
So, if you see some fancy e-bikes zipping along Hermosa Beach this winter, it’s very possible it’s Redick or another Lakers staffer who was blessed with the present from Luka.
