Everyone expected Mike McDaniel’s offense to be dynamic and explosive through the air, but his ability to scheme a rushing attack was an under-appreciated aspect of his coaching that Chargers fans were also excited to welcome onto the team.
That…hasn’t been the case through his first two games calling the offense.
In the tweet below (go follow this account, he’s a great account for Chargers analytics), you can see every single two-game stretch of EPA gained per rushing play across every two-game stretch during
McDaniel’s tenure as Miami head coach, every two-game stretch under Greg Roman as Chargers OC, and the two-game stretch to start this season.
Weeks One and Two of this season have combined to be the second-worst two-game stretch on the entire graph. Only one two-game stretch was worse for McDaniel while with Miami and Greg Roman never had a worst two-game stretch during his tenure.
That’s a shocking piece of information.
And now for today’s links.
