Here are today’s rumors from day two of the 2025 Winter Meetings.
Kyle Schwarber is back
Kyle Schwarber is reportedly finalizing a 5-year, $150 million with the Phillies. Schwarber is coming off the best
year of his career, and will be signed through his age-37 season.
Per Ken Rosenthal: The Orioles matched the offer made by the Phillies, the Reds were in the 5/$125M range, and the Pirates offered 4/$120M.
Rob Thomson is back at the helm through 2027
Thomson has the second-most wins (346) and second-best winning percentage (.580) by any manager in Phillies history. He’s led the team to four consecutive postseason appearances, including back-to-back NL East titles.
According to Todd Zolecki he joins Dave Roberts, Aaron Boone and Mike Matheny as the only managers in MLB history to make the postseason in each of their first four seasons as a manager, and Charlie Manuel and Danny Ozark as the only Phillies managers to win consecutive division titles.
The Phillies are interested in Japanese star Tatsuya Imai
Imai, a right-hander who currently plays for the Seibu Lions, made 24 starts in 2025. He threw 5 complete games and had a 1.92 ERA and 0.892 WHIP over 163.2 innings.
Other teams rumored to be interested include the Cubs, Yankees, and Orioles.
In non-Phillies news…
Mets closer Edwin Diaz has reportedly signed a 3-year, $69 million deal with the Dodgers.
