The Portland Trail Blazers have waived reserve forward Jeremy Sochan, the organization announced Saturday.
The Blazers had signed Sochan, 23, in early August to a non-guaranteed deal, giving him a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp and preseason. The 6-foot-8 forward appeared in all four of Portland’s preseason games, averaging 6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 12.3 minutes per game. He also shot 10-16 from the field and 4-5 from behind the 3-point arc during those four games.
The decision to waive Sochan puts the Blazers’ roster at 17 players ahead of the regular season, including three two-way contract players. Without further changes, the Blazers will enter the season with one available standard roster spot.
The San Antonio Spurs drafted Sochan with the No. 9 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He spent three and a half seasons with the Spurs before they waived him in February, leading Sochan to spend the remainder of the 2025-26 season with the New York Knicks.
Largely known for his defensive abilities, Sochan has posted career averages of 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 24.1 minutes per game while shooting 47% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the 3-point line.
