Picking up a World Cup-ending injury was never going to be easy for Lennart Karl to accept, but Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer says the youngster will bounce back and not skip a beat.
“Of course, I feel incredibly sorry for Lennart, who has had a wonderful development. For such a young player, going to the World Cup is naturally the greatest thing. We all would have loved to see him at the World Cup, because Lennart represents a wonderful story: within just one season as a talent from the FC
Bayern campus straight to the World Cup. He shows what is possible at FC Bayern,” Hainer told Bild’s Johannes Berner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I sent him a WhatsApp message and told him that he has to look ahead now, no matter how great the disappointment may be. Because he has such a great future ahead of him. Lennart is receiving the best medical treatment with us, and he has an example in his own team of how quickly things can improve: Aleks Pavlović was sidelined just before the EUROs two years ago – and today he’s a regular starter in the national team.”
Aside of any physical pain from the injury, the real angst for Karl is probably just about the missed opportunity. The youngster was tracking to be an important player for Germany and judging by the way the team played in its 2-1 victory over the USMNT, the squad misses him already.
