“I don’t have anybody else to blame but myself for how my NFL career went.” – Johnny Manziel
A lifetime ago, the Cleveland Browns drafted Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel with the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL draft. The excitement in the air that night in Radio City Music Hall was off the charts. I would know; I was there as a fan early in my media career. The next day, WR Josh Gordon was on ESPN Radio talking about the Browns taking over the league.
Shortly after, Gordon was suspended
again, and Manziel did nothing in the NFL.
Since his two season, 14 game career ended in 2015, Manziel and people around him have rarely, if ever, taking responsibility for his failures. Often, Manziel blamed the Browns organization and things around him, similar to what we’ve heard recently from QB Deshaun Watson, who blamed the Cleveland media for setting unrealistic expections.
Now almost 34 years old, Manziel was finally able to take responsibility and acocuntablity for his failed NFL career. Talking with Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase and Annie Agar, Manziel talked about finally having his epiphany:
