Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou Hoops
Mizzou Basketball is 3-0 on the young season. After surviving an upset scare vs in-state opponent SEMO on Friday night, the Tigers had a better overall performance
in a 106-68 victory over VMI Sunday afternoon.
In the latest power rankings, Missouri checks in at No. 37 in Jon Rothstein’s Top 45 and No. 30 in Andy Katz’s Power 37.
30. Missouri (Prev. 32): Mark Mitchell is poised for a monster season for the Tigers, dropping 29 last week.
The Tigers still have work to do to be ranked in the Top 25, but they received votes in the coaches’ poll and AP Top 25 rankings released on Monday.
Up next the Tigers host Minnesota on Wednesday night — marking Mizzou’s first power conference opponent of the season. Not much is expected out of the Gophers as they were picked to finish 16th in the Big Ten preseason poll in Niko Medved’s first season. Though, they are led by UNC transfer Cade Tyson who scored 30 points in their season-opening win over Gardner-Webb and 21 points in Saturday’s win vs Alcorn State. Tyson should provide a challenge for a struggling Mizzou defense.

But our guy was back in action for the Bears on Sunday, where he played a season high 33 snaps and made a key catch on the Bears’ final drive that ultimately won them the game.
What the Bears said.
Despite allowing 38 points, the defense was the main reason the Tigers were still somewhat in the game against an undefeated Aggies squad — especially at the linebacker position.
The defense was solid, but simply not good enough.
In all reality — playing a true freshman QB without your starting tight end against the No. 3 team in the country wasn’t a recipe for success.
This is basically what it comes down to.
The first power conference test awaits them. I’m hopeful we’ll be able to see a few more players in the rotation soon enough. Maybe not in time for Minnesota, but the Tigers could use an extra set of hands.
Would like to see what this team looks like with a roster at full health.
But this is when the culture of a program is stress tested. And the culture at Mizzou, for all intents and purposes, appears to be healthy. The Tigers can confirm that by recovering against the Bulldogs.
Mizzou comes in as 6.5-point favorites heading into their Senior Night vs Mississippi State.
There was a lot going on this week, so get ready for a variety of coverage! Volleyball fell to no. 2 Kentucky in four sets on Friday and football lost to the no. 3 Aggies of Texas A&M on Saturday. Men’s basketball took on Virginia Military Institute for the first time and won 106-68 on Sunday.
Plenty of great photos from Hannah in a jam-packed week featuring volleyball, football, and hoops.
