One of the best point guards in the 2027 class, Reese Alston, has announced his college decision.
A top-10 prospect and third-ranked point guard, Alston chose the LSU Tigers on Thursday over Louisville, Wichita State, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He’s ranked as high as No. 9 overall in the 2027 class by both Rivals and 247 Sports.
Alston was a player that Mark Pope and Co. identified early, extending an offer to Alston after hosting him for an unofficial visit to Big Blue Madness in 2025. The Wildcats
had some existing connections, with Pope being an NBA teammate of Alston’s father, Rafer “Skip 2 My Lou” Alston, in Milwaukee, while assistant Mikhial McLean is an alum of Alston’s high school, Houston Second Baptist.
Kentucky stayed in consistent contact and maintained a “good” relationship, but LSU and Louisville emerged as the favorites in recent weeks, despite a surprise official visit to Lexington in late September.
Some big names remain on the Wildcats’ recruiting board, including reclass options, but they have only one commitment so far for the 2027 class: Ryan Hampton. One guard prospect to keep an eye on is Nasir Anderson from Prolific Prep. Then again, with the 5-in-5 rule, all four of Kentucky’s guards have at least one more season of eligibility, and there will be options in the transfer portal.
On to the next one!
