The Cleveland Browns are heading into their bye week, so now would be an ideal time to make the move at quarterback from Dillon Gabriel to Shedeur Sanders. This would give Sanders the bye week to prepare
and get ready to face off against the New York Jets. Should the Browns choose to make this move, there are a few key areas they will examine to feel confident in Sanders moving forward.
Mental Readiness
Sanders looked fairly poised during his snaps in the first preseason game; however, the regular season is a completely different ball game. It will be important to see that he can mentally handle the speed of an NFL offense and that the moment is not too big for him.
Ability to push the ball downfield
One of Gabriel’s biggest weaknesses is his inability to push the ball downfield and create an explosive passing offense. Sanders has shown that he has great arm strength and can deliver a nice deep ball. The Cleveland offense has been lackluster this season, so Sanders would have an opportunity to open things up.
Continuous Improvement
Given that the Browns have just 2 wins so far this season, the team isn’t expecting him to come in and lead them to the playoffs. What is more important is that they see improvement in his confidence and play on the field with each performance. The team can then assess how they want to handle the quarterback position next season.
