Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about how Mizzou Baseball can’t stop scoring runs.
After setting a record for the most runs scored in a game in 120-plus years last weekend, Mizzou traveled to Fort Meyers, Florida, this weekend and put a three-game punishing on New Haven, winning three straight run-rule games capped by a 16-2 victory on Sunday.
The Tigers are currently being paced by redshirt sophomore center fielder Tyler Macon, who is slashing a ridiculous .571/.622/.750 in his first seven games. He’s also stolen
three bases in as many attempts, giving the Tigers a threat on the base paths as well as in the batter’s box.
Just as encouraging for Kerrick Jackson? The pitching staff, which has now gone at least 5 innings in all of their starts this season. Sophomore Brady Kehlenbrink went five innings while giving up two runs on Sunday, giving the Tigers another strong start from the back end of the rotation.
The Tigers now get to head home for the first time all year to face Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

What matters is what happens next. I think Missouri can make the tournament by simply going .500 the rest of the way. The important games for Missouri are probably the road game at Oklahoma, and the home games against Tennessee and Arkansas. I think you need to get one of those three, and win at Mississippi State, and you’re probably okay. Tennessee and Arkansas are top 30 so those are Q1 home games, and OU is 69th so that’s still a Q1 road game. MSU is sitting at 90th, so that’s a Q2 road game. That means with 4 regular season games to play, three are in Quad 1. The more wins you get in Quad 1 the better, obviously. If they want to win the all, they should. 22-9 and 12-6 in the SEC is certainly worthy of inclusion, and even a quality seed.
The performances have been better over the past few weeks. Now to turn those into results… and a bid.
It was a poor defensive outing for the visitors, giving up 100 points for the first time this season under Kellie Harper. LSU had absurd shooting splits of 47/41/87. In the middle two quarters the Tigers scored 62 points to bury Mizzou.
It’s never good to give up triple-digits, especially if you don’t plan on scoring that many yourself.
Author James S.A. Corey once said, “You know who talks about moral victories? The team that lost.” He’s not wrong because there were plenty of moral victories for No. 14 Tigers Style in a 20-14 loss to No. 4 Iowa State.
Mizzou looked strong, particularly strong from 141lbs-184lbs and two of those bouts were losses. Easton Hilton staked his claim as the future at 141lbs by wrestling Anthony Echemendia close and true freshman Seth Mendoza made one of the biggest upsets of the season against Jacob Frost.
Next up: The Big 12 Championships in Tulsa at the beginning of March.
Soon after, [Drew Rogers] set the school’s 5000m record at the SEC Championships and won the SEC title in the 3000m, breaking his record by 2.39 seconds with a time of 7:53.61 in 2025. This year, Rogers claimed a new school record in the 3000m at 7:49.00, continuing off his past year’s success.
It’s a nice read if you’re not as familiar with the T&F roster!
- Over at Rock M+, the bracketology is getting serious and questions are being raised about next year’s rotation.
Stay tuned for Karen’s weekend gymnastics recap later today.
