One of the really impressive gets in the transfer portal for Kentucky Basketball this past offseason is Alex Wilkins.
While Wilkins had played only one season at Furman to start his college career, he was already showing flashes of becoming an elite scorer and leader on both ends of the floor, so Kentucky got a steal in the portal.
Tuesday night against Manhattan in Kentucky’s season-opener, Wilkins starred on the defensive end with seven steals. It’s the most ever for a Kentucky player in his debut
with the Wildcats, breaking the previous mark held by UK legend Rajon Rondo (five).
Wilkins nearly tied the single-game record of eight, which is currently held by Ashton Hagans, Cason Wallace, and Wayne Turner.
Wilkins also had a great night on the offensive end, scoring 11 points with three triples. He tied for the team lead with five assists, including one on an alley-oop to Ousmane N’Diaye right before halftime.
Kentucky had nine steals overall Tuesday night, forcing 13 Manhattan turnovers and holding the Jaspers to just seven assists. The Wildcats scored 18 points off turnovers and had 19 fast-break points.
