Paul Wanner was one of Bayern Munich’s most heralded prospects of the last decade, but his much-awaited breakthrough into the first team never materialized.
As such, Wanner made the move to PSV Eindhoven
last summer and has begun to assert himself after a slow start…just in time to face Bayern Munich next week in the Champions League.
“It won’t be a normal game. I’ll be seeing former teammates and familiar faces again. We know that Bayern are currently one of the best teams in the world. But we have quality too, we want to give Bayern a hard time and try to beat them at home. I’m really looking forward to this game,” Wanner told Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
When Wanner made the decision to leave the club, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl was critical of the 20-year-old’s perceived unwillingness of wanting to compete for a job.
“There are always different opinions in the football business; that’s part of it. I’m glad to be here. There’s no bad blood, everything is fine. I’m very grateful to Bayern because I was able to learn a lot there and had some great experiences,” Wanner said.
When asked if he still had thoughts about future in Bavaria, Wanner dismissed the question.
“Now I’m in Eindhoven, that’s my full focus, we have big plans here. The Bayern chapter isn’t on my mind right now because I want to concentrate on my performances here,” said Wanner.
