Barcelona sporting director Deco has given a new interview and spoken about the offer the club made to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez.
The Catalan giants were keen to sign the Argentina international this summer, but Atletico refused to sell and the forward remains in the Spanish capital.
Deco has been quizzed on the transfer saga and has now shared his side of the story.
“We made an offer to pay in three seasons. There are clubs that pay in five terms. I have no problem with Mateu Alemany, I haven’t
done anything to him,” he told RAC1.
“I don’t want to talk about Julián anymore. We are clear that our players have versatility. It is practically impossible to replace Lewandowski.
“If Julián didn’t come, we had to look for a similar profile. That’s why we signed Gabriel. With Adeyemi we got the opportunity earlier. Bardghji we had the idea of giving him up.”
Deco also says he faced a similar situation to Alvarez when he was a player.
“I can’t say much more than what reality is. We have made a formal and correct offer. When I was a player, the president of Porto did not let me go to Barça,” he added.
“He told me to stay one year and the next I could go wherever I wanted. I stayed and the option I had was to play well and wait for the next year. I had the offer from Chelsea, who paid more, but I wanted to go to Barça.”
“We have the information we have. We have done things well. We launched an offer and there was no response. There has been more talk in the press. We talk to them in a respectful way. They told us that they didn’t want to sell.
“You can’t always be bringing up the same issue. There is much more social pressure than reality. There are no more turns on this. Barça did not tell Julián to publicly express his desire to leave Atletico.”
Barcelona have gone on to start the season in incredible form in front of goal, scoring 22 goals in their first five games of the campaign in all competitions.
