Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford ended up with 41 million viewers watching their undisputed super middleweight title fight on Netflix.
In viewership numbers provided by VideoAmp and Netflix, the main event between Crawford and Alvarez scored an estimated average minute audience (AMA) of nearly 36.6 million global viewers from opening to closing bell. That number rose to 41.4 million viewers (Live+1) through the rest of the weekend, making it the most-viewed men’s championship boxing match this
century. The event peaked at 24 million concurrent streams.
In the United States alone, the fight ended with an estimated AMA of 20.3 million viewers who tuned in to watch the main event. The event was also No. 1 on Netflix in 30 countries, including the United States and Mexico, and was Top-10 in 91 countries.
While not quite to the lofty numbers of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, which set a record with 108 million viewers, last year, this is nonetheless a big number for Netflix, and dwarfs the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3 event earlier this year, which drew 6 million viewers.
Canelo vs. Crawford also generated over 950 million impressions across Netflix’s social media platforms, and the fight accounted for 21 of the top 30 trends across social media in the United States. It also broke the gate record for Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, generating $47 million in revenue, with attendance coming in at 70,482 people.
