Notes & Thoughts:
- For the first time this season, all five starters on the offensive line played every snap of the game.
- This was the first game of the season against power conference competition that the offense had more total snaps than the defense. Penn State controlled the ball well by running it with Kaytron Allen, but the defense had too many breakdowns, yielding 25 points on 51 total snaps.
- Dominic DeLuca and Amare Campbell played every snap at linebacker and were repeatedly exposed all night by Iowa’s rushing offense. Will any of the other linebackers on this roster get a chance to show what they can do against a good team? The season is already lost.
- Kaytron Allen outsnapped Nicholas Singleton 52-37. Given their respective productivity on the field, I was thinking Singleton had maybe 20 snaps before I reviewed the game footage. He has become completely invisible in the offense even when he is on the field.
- I can’t say enough about Zakee Wheatley. He played every snap on defense, made 10 tackles, and had an interception on Iowa’s first drive of the game. The defense is a mess, but Wheatley has been strong in the secondary. The next coach should keep Anthony Poindexter on the staff.
