The Detroit Tigers made it six straight losses and ninth in the last 10 games with a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Comerica Park on Monday night. Framber Valdez was just good enough to earn a quality start, but his offense failed to find any real momentum.
Taking the mound for the Tigers in Game 2 on Tuesday is right-hander Jackson Jobe, who will make his fourth start since returning from Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old’s last outing was his longest so far, throwing 86 pitches over 5 1/3 innings,
allowing a run on four hits and three walks while striking out three.
It looks like he is getting stretched out well as the final month of the regular season approaches after throwing 71 and 74 pitches, respectively, during his two previous appearances.
For the Rays, left-hander Ian Seymour will toe the rubber for his 12th start of the 2026 campaign after spending a good portion of the year in a relief role. The 27-year-old has been solid over his past four outings — all starts — logging a 3.52 ERA and 4.13 FIP over 23 innings, allowing 24 hits (six home runs) and four walks while striking out 33, earning three quality starts and a pair of wins against one loss.
Seymour saw the Tigers once before this season back on June 2, when he was tagged for three runs on two hits (one home run) and three walks plus an intentional free pass with just a strikeout over two frames in a game his team lost, 8-0, at Tropicana Field.
