David Benavidez speaks to Fight Hub TV about his upcoming title defense against Anthony Yarde next month, still be aligned with PBC despite taking this fight with Riyadh Season, and feeling like this is a fight that
will suit him stylistically, even if Yarde is a rough and tumble fighter.
“Anthony Yarde, he’s a great fighter. He still has a ton of fight in him,” Benavidez said. “He’s been up there with the top guys. I feel like this is probably going to be the most he’s come prepared for any fight because he’s lost his last two title fights and I feel like he knows — not that this is his last opportunity, but he has to take advantage of this opportunity. So I’m not taking Anthony Yarde lightly, I know he has a dog in him, I know he has a lion in him, but I have a lion in me as well.
“I thrive better with these type of opponents because they come to me, I don’t have to chase ‘em. So we’re both going to display our heart and we’re going to see who’s the better tactician, who’s better technically in that fight…Obviously we both throw big shots but it’s about how you set stuff up, how you do the defense. I’m not going to say it’s easy for me but it’s going to be easier — I’m going to be able to establish my game plan easier, basically.
“This is what I like, I’m comfortable with this.”
