The hopes for Aidan Miller playing games during spring training and potentially forcing the team to make a decision have taken a hit. He has an issue with his back that preventing him from doing much at all right now.
Miller, 21, is recovering from a recurring back issue, stalling the Phillies’ plans to play him at shortstop and third base throughout the spring. It’s unclear if Miller will play in any Grapefruit League games, or be ready for Triple-A Lehigh Valley’s season opener on March 27.
This
isn’t probably an issue long term as Miller is so young and theoretically blocked at both positions the team could have played him at. However, getting plate appearances during spring training is always helpful for prospects of Miller’s pedigree and losing them is kind of a bummer. It’s wise to believe the training staff will take it easy on him as his future is too important to the team.
