I think we can call that a convincing enough win, yeah?
1st Period
Things started off with Casey Mittelstadt grabbing the puck in the offensive zone and throwing it on net against Sebastian Cossa, who let it through for a 1-0 Bruins lead!
then, on the power play, David Pastrnak took a Brunet pass to wire it past Cossa and a 2-0 lead!
Next, Mason Lohrei took a swing at it through putting a shot through traffic, and it wired home on a screen to make it 3-0 B’s lead!
Onto the 2nd!
Second Period
Pasta decided he liked power play
scoring, and asked for another one. He got a chance off a Morgan Geekie wired pass, which put the B’s up 4-0!
Things continued on, and Boston got another power play. Morgan Geekie decided he liked power play scoring too, and got in on the action with a similar one time chance of his own! 5-0 Bruins.
Finally, Matthew Poitras needed to show his worth, and what better way to show that off with a goal-for on the rush with David Pastrnak handing out the assist. 6-0 Bruins
Third period ahoy!
Third Preview
Unfortunatelly this was the period in which Jeremy’s shut out couldn’t keep up, and Jimmy McBain got on the board with a quick shot from the circles. 6-1 B’s lead.
After that? The quota was hit. Boston could happily cruise on over to the winner’s corner for the evening. Bruins WIN 6-1!
Game Preview
- The TOI Leader for your Bruins was Nikita Zadorov, who played 22:09
- Look, if we’re looking at any moment in which the Boston Bruins were not in control of the puck, they were getting absolutely smoked at even strength. However, what they had was the better goaltender and better transition defense, and for tonight, that was more than enough. Utah’s inability to stop the puck on the rush became their achilles heel as the B’s largely overcame their foes by taking ample advantage of miscues happening in the defensive zone. Was this a game that the Bruins want to repeat against someone with real hopes against the actually good teams in the NHL? probably not, but there are less of those than you might think; this is absolutely a viable tactic to win some hockey games.
- Maybe not an ideal night for guys like Will Borgen, who got three straight Penalties. You really don’t want defensmen to draw too much attention when bluelining and that performance made him noticeable by name alone.
- Mercifully it was much better for David Pastrnak, who walked away from this one with 4 points. Once again the cap coming up clutch.
- I’m going in and out with some of the defenders, but I think that Connor Clifton and Jon Brunt are heading up some solid play for the B’s; to say nothing of Mason Lohrei finally looking competent as an NHLer. They’re gonna need that to carry as much as possible for the less vulnerable appts.
- I really hope Connor Hellebuyck gets desperate enough to take a flyer from the Mammoth because good god that would be miserable for everybody else. Keep holding out, pal. The rest of us approve it.
- Jeremy Swayman once again only had a .973 SV% and probably was the deserved first star without scoring a goal. Exemplary performance as usual, Sway.
The B’s are back at it on Saturday, taking on the Philadelphia Flyers at home. That game is at 1pm EST.
See you then for Manatee hockey!
